Black-legged
Kittiwake do not breed in the vicinity of Skogsøy so, as with
Black-headed Gull, it is easy
to spot the migrants. The species is seen only rarely and in small
numbers during the winter months. Perhaps surprisingly the largest
numbers I have recorded have been in early March. Relatively good
numbers are also noted during May; numbers are low throughout the
summer before numbers increase again during the autumn storms.
This species is seen in much larger numbers at
Utsira than at Skogsøy.
The blue line shows number of visits, the orange one the number of
visits when Black-legged Kittiwake have been recorded and the green one
(numbers on right hand axis) shows the maximum
numbers I have recorded in any three day period.
