Squacco Heron - Topphegre - Ardeola Ralloides
Rallhäger - Tophejre - Rääkkähaikara - Ralreiger - Rallenreiher - Crabier chevelu - Garcilla Cangrejera

Having cycled out to Lake Kournas before dawn the first birds I saw were these two Squacco Herons. They fed out in the open and gave excellent views as they caught small fish and what looked like some kind of prawn. Initially I had to use very high ISO settings to take pictures, gradually decreasing as the sun came up and more light became available.

This was a test of patience and endurance as I was hidden behind some shrubs, kneeling in the path of some ants with a cloud of mosquitos over me and, after a while, cramp in my right leg. Pretty much worth the effort though....
