This gem turned up on the relatively undiscovered and
hopelessly underwatched island of Hernar in Øygarden close
to Bergen in Norway. This was only the second record for
Øygarden and approximately the fourth for the county of
Hordaland - this is probably more of a reflection on observer effort
than actual scarcity.
The first record for Øygarden was on 25 August 1991 at Herdlevær.
Hernar,
Øygarden, 26 August 2009
This bird was hard to
clinch giving only brief views early in the day followed by a few calls
and fleeting glimpses before it finally gave itself up giving great
views and calling repeatedly just before it was time to catch the boat
home....
