Coal Tit - Svartmeis - Parus ater

Coal tit are one of the commonest resident species in Øygarden and are almost everywhere there are some trees. However, they are also an irruptive migrant and can be seen moving in sizeable flocks down the coast or even up in the mountains in the autumn.

This is a species with an enormous distribution across Eurasia and across into, for example, Bhutan where they look quite different (see further down this page).

One of the commonest woodland species in Øygarden, this species can be seen everywhere.

The advantage of using a camera with more megapixels is that one can crop the image and still acheive a decent result - as illustrated above. The top picture is as it was when downloaded from the camera, the bottom picture is cropped around the bird.
