Dark birds such as these become progressively more common the further north one travels. However, they are surprsingly regular in the north sea down to around 60 degrees north. Such individuals can be seen almost daily anywhere from approximately 63 degrees.

The scarcity of these "blue" fulmars from seawatching headlands does not, in my opinion reflect their true status in the North Sea.

Blue Fulmar occur in a variety of "phases" with birds ranging in colour from rather dark to quite pale.
