This species is one of the more appealing birds of Øygarden
and can be seen at any time of year. It breeds in small
numbers and is also seen on passage.
The juvenile bird in these pictures was seen swimming in a sheltered
cove; I crept up on it on my belly and ended up quite close....

Boat trips usually
provide the best photo opportunities for this species - but they are
difficult to photograph from a small boat bobbing on the waves.
Generally speaking more can be seen from shore - although usually at
longer range.
