Winter
geese in Hordaland are not a common sight. Small numbers of
"grey" geese turn up in Øygarden each winter - and when they
do
the chances of them being one of the better species i.e. not greylags
is good. Both Tundra and Taiga forms (and probably a load of
stuff in between!) have turned up in Øygarden.

Two
Bean Geese at Tjeldstø during January
and
February 2006 displayed characterisitcs of the race rossicus i.e.
Tundra Bean Goose (tundrasædgås) - the last picture
on this
page shows a classic example - having a short beak with a small orange
patch. The other bird may have been more difficult on its own with more
orange on the bill - which also gives the impression of being slightly
longer. However, these two bird showed no appreciable difference in
size and are thus both likely to be rossicus.
