phalarope

Red-necked Phalarope are an enigmatic species of "the north", inevitaby evoking images of wild and untamed places. One of my (many) favourite species I am lucky enough to be able to see this species in Norway, have come across it during trips to Iceland and seen vast swarms at sea various places during my time as an offshore surveyor.

On my home turf in Øygarden this remains a rare species. In my second favourite place in Norway, Engerdal, it is a regular enough bird if you go to the right places:)

This species is unusual in that it is the female that is the most colurful - the male sits on the eggs.
