Common
Scoter are seen during most trips to Skogsøy. During the
winter months they can be seen on the sea, although numbers vary
considerably from year to year. There is a clear peak towards the end
of April, non-/failed breeders can be seen on the move during the
summer and there is a distinct passage during the autumn. Various age
classes can be seen moving in different directions on the same day:
this species is known for its complex movements. More details will be
presented on this page in due course.
It seems that this species is seen a lot more on migration past
Skogsøy than at Utsira, especially during the spring.
However,
it may well be a more regular visitor (on the sea) at Utsira during the
winter months.
The blue line shows number of visits, the orange one the number of
visits when Common Scoter have been recorded and the green one shows
the average
numbers I have recorded in any three day period.
