The pictures below depict the Canary Island Race of Great Grey Shrike. On Lanzarote it is very widespread and conspicuous - especially outside the tourist resorts. Some birds seem quite tame - like this individual in the car park behind the beach at Playa Mujera east of Playa Blanca.

The shrikes feed mostly on larger insects such as beetles and dragonflies.
