Mallard must be one of the most under-rated birds in Northern Europe, common and widespread they are seen everywhere. Numbers at Tjeldstø rarely exceed 70 and even such numbers only occur during wet and rainy weather during the early spring and in the autumn - surely a sign of migrating birds being grounded.
